The hardened leaves skip crisscross over the pavement, their tips echoing like faint stacattoed plucks...of far-off violins that rise and fall in pitch and duration. Like racing siblings, the new and old fly upon your playful breath... higher still, like colored flocks of tiny birds who swirl and dive in rounded dusty-rose and pearl-hued whites. With wistful abandon, they flutter by, pausing only briefly still, to kiss my skin, and then to finally rest upon the green-gray canvas, like plumped dots of glistening snow in full-bloomed spring that soon will fade and melt into the grass.
