Reseña del libro "Treachery Among Us: Book 2 of the MacLaine - US Army Air Corps Series (en Inglés)"

The story is a tale of greed and treachery following the invasion of Normandy in June of 1944. As the German army retreated across France, leaders of the German High Command anticipated the collapse of the Third Reich. High ranking members advised Adolf Hitler to seek peace terms. The Fuehrer swore to fight to last man. In desperation, the German Intelligence Service and staff officers made an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hiller -- but failed. In secrecy, those in opposition to the Fuehrer sought out the terms of surrender from the Allied governments of Britain and America. By August of 1944, negotiations between Washington, London, Paris, and Berlin had reached a brokered arrangement. The Allies would recognize Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering as Germany's supreme leader. Once in power, Goering would agree to the cessation of all hostilities on the western front. To cement the deal, the German High Command would hand over Adolf Hitler. He would be exchanged for the Nazis treasury taken by the Free French Army during the Liberation of Paris. The vast treasure consisted of the stolen wealth from the museums and the banks of occupied Europe. The French had hidden the gold and crown jewels in the caves of the champagne region of France. The covert operation would be conducted by the OSS and MI6. The exchange between the Allies and Germans would take place in Zurich, Switzerland. It was given the code-name, Operation Golden Jedburg. The mission takes a dangerous route when the treasure is intercepted by French resistance fighters lead by Simone De Warre and the American pilot, Thomas MacLaine.
