Max Focus finds a crashed UFO in a cave underneath his school that can travel through space and time. Along with Professor Shoemaker and Bixby the extra-terrestrial, they travel to the Late Cretaceous Era and contend with a giganotosaurus in order to secure a fuel supply for their ship, the Manta Ray. Expecting to return home in time for dinner, a malfunction deposits the crew 10 years into the future where they are captured by steampunk savages in a world where humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. A race of ancient reptilians, the nagas-serpentine shapeshifters mentioned in the Indian epic the Mahabharata-have conquered the planet, ruining the environment to suit their needs and farming the remaining survivors like cattle. With this foreknowledge, Max must return to the present where he plans to defeat the nagas at their base of operations, located within the hollow moon, before the queen can unleash her plot to usurp the world.
