A Note from Warren As of the publication of this memoir in 2016, I have been married for more than fifty-eight years. For me, each moment in time has been a gift of love and compassion. As a young man, I missed the GI Educational Bill by less than a month, and, as a result, a normal four-year college degree took me six years-supporting a family of six by completion. Without the help of Rita, I would have never finished. We had four beautiful children: Denise, Michael, Maryann, and David. Our oldest, Denise, became an angel at thirty-seven; she watches over us now, wherever we go. As I look back on my first twenty-one years-absent of love and full of both mental and physical abuse-I would do it all over again if I knew I'd find someone like my Rita. As I approach the twilight of my years, I have only one wish: when I close my eyes for the final time, I want my Rita to be the last vision I see. I love her not only for what she is but for what I am when I am with her.
