Eternal Punishment explains that religious indifferentism is causing many people not to believe in the existence of Hell and the fire contained within it. The idea of eternal punishment is becoming a thing of the past in the minds of many. This causes a degradation of society. It tears apart the very fabric of what holds us together, the Justice of Almighty God. Many today solely think of Divine Mercy and completely forget about Divine Justice. When God acts many times His acts of Justice are an act of Mercy. "God," says St. Augustine, "denies some things in His mercy, which He grants in His wrath." St. Alphonsus writes: "a single bad book will be sufficient to cause the destruction of a monastery." Pope Pius XII wrote in 1947 at the beatification of Blessed Maria Goretti: "There rises to Our lips the cry of the Saviour: 'Woe to the world because of scandals!' (Matthew 18:7). Woe to those who consciously and deliberately spread corruption-in novels, newspapers, magazines, theaters, films, in a world of immodesty!"
