At times he covers large distances on foot without so much as a compass and frequently rests his head in a variety of extraordinary places. He is the first outsider to stay a night with members of the Arhuaco tribe in Columbia. Kidnapped for some hours and often mugged, his sense of adventure is never dimmed. His hunger for rural landscapes and the people encountered on his path, all humour and colour the pages, filling them from his start in Venezuela and clockwise around South America and up through Central America, at a time when civil wars are still rampant.
